Do you know why we bury underpants in our vineyards ?

It is a very simple way to appreciate the biologic activity of the soil: we bury cotton underpants ans we look at their decomposition state several months later. The idea is that the more they have disintegrated the better because the healthier the soil the more worms, fungi and bacteria will be present to attack the briefs.

We did the test this spring on 2 of our vineyards located in Entre Deux Mers. Below are the pictures after 3 months underground: the underpants have been well disintegrated testifying an healthy living soil!
